Any update?
I need it too, it's a feature that Grammarly has, but LanguageTool doesn't. Maybe use this add-on for now https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/dictionary-anyvhere/. It's recommended by Firefox, so I think it's good. The minus is there is no dark mode.

I am currently using the extension. The sad part is LT already has this feature implemented. It only works in editor mode. Would love to see the feature reach its full potential.
… only works in editor mode. …
For cases where the LanguageTool extension can not work in editor mode, this extension for Firefox might be the best complement:
– through its context menu, results at www.thesaurus.com
can appear in a new tab.
https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/synonyms-net/reviews/1131135/ not a good review from me in 2018, when I found that it did "not work with the editable field when writing a comment at GitHub", however this is no longer true; I should delete the old review and add a new one with reference to https://forum.languagetool.org/t/-/7507/5?u=grahamperrin.
Double Click to synonyms when just reading
If the feature is added, it should be optional, and not enabled by default.
When enabled, there should be the option to have the dialogue appear only if a user-definable modifier key is pressed and held prior to the double click.
Thanks
I use this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/dictionary-anyvhere/
Yes, it should be optional, but the functionality is already there. Currently, it is a wasted opportunity.

It only provides synonyms.
It only provides synonyms.
The description at https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/dictionary-anyvhere/ begins
View definitions
– and that's what's provided by the extension; definitions, not synonyms.
Observe:
q=define
in the URL hint at the foot of the window to the rightSorry, I miswrote. I meant to say it only provides definition, not synonyms.
I stopped using it long ago because it's too intrusive; it lacks the option described above.

)#3, #19
).
This is the current behavior which is great.
When I double-click salient using Google Dictionary it has the settings to show synonyms but not in LT.
This will be a very helpful feature that will be essential for non-native readers.
Thanks for this awesome FOSS software!
