4 / 8 channel current sensing #499

Current sensing on every single ESC could be implemented, to get diagnostic
information about electric motor-propeller-performance. When a propeller breaks
or falls off, or a motor winding is damaged or an ESC breaks down, lifting
force misses.
As the pilot or the flight control cannot react that fast, the copter can be
lost (my experience last weekend).

My interest would be a 8-channel (or dual 4-channel) current monitor; i could
design the PCB. 2 NXP I2C ananlog converters and INA138 current monitors,
assembled on a center Power-Supply-Plate between battery and ESCs should do.

Three questions, if you are interested, please give me a feedback:
Is there a need for diagnostics on motors?
Does the Copter software concept offer calculations on single-engine-level
(power, rpm, thrust,...)?
Is there anyone interested to impelement a monitoring/warning/safety-concept on
engine action?
Greetings, Hans-Jochen

I think you might get more responses posting a blog or discussion, this section
is for bugs/issues found.
