As Lemmy differentiates between username (name@instance) and display names (free to choose), some people made the decision to opt for a display name consisting of random assortments of emojis (e.g. 👁👃👁@lemmy.world); others set a display name that has nothing to do with their original username, which is confusing at best, deliberately imitating others at worst.
Describe the solution you'd like
Ideally, I'd want a setting to strip the display name of all non-Standard characters, or alternatively display the username if any non-Standard characters are present in the display name altogether.
Secondly, a general setting to display usernames only would be appreciated.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Cry.
Additional context
Given that display names can be set at random, I consider the general override a security feature, really.
