Import of a JEX file on Android fails silently #10749

Open webdb22 opened 3 months ago

webdb22 commented 3 months ago

Operating system

Android

Joplin version

3.0.8 (Anroid)

Desktop version info

3.0.13 (Desktop)

Current behaviour

When trying to import a JEX file, which was exported from the Joplin Desktop, into Joplin on Android, it silently fails without anything imported and no error message. The import into Joplin on Android seems to be running for a while (minutes to hours) displaying "Import notes from a JEX (Joplin Export) file" but then simply stops without any error messages, neither in the UI nor in the logs.

Desktop: Joplin 3.0.13, Ubuntu 22.04 Android: Joplin 3.0.8, Android 14, Samsung Galaxy A52s

Expected behaviour

All notes exported from the Joplin Desktop via a JEX file should be imported and available in Joplin on Android

Logs

No response

I do have the same problem. The app just crashes silently on my Android device.

Tried it with the latest version of Joplin on Android and Joplin Desktop, still the same behavior, the import on Android silently fails.

This is not reproducible for the below system specs:

My Environment Info:

Joplin PC: 3.0.15
OS: Windows 11

Joplin Android: 3.0.8
OS: OxygenOS 13.0

Can you please share a file (which can be publicly shared ofcourse) and also your system specs?

I created a sample JEX by exporting via desktop (it had very small content) and tried to import it into my android phone, it got imported successfully in few secs itself.

Thanks for looking into it, I've tried it several times in the last few months, it always failed. The system specs were:

Desktop: Ubuntu 22.04, Joplin 3.0.13 and Joplin 3.015
Android: Android 14, Samsung Galaxy A52s, Joplin Mobile 3.0.8 and Joplin Mobile 3.1.4

The Sync Status in Joplin Desktop from which I exported the .jex file (the numbers have changed a bit over time , but not significantly):

Note: 1788/1788
Folder: 9/9
Resource: 7928/7928
Tag: 933/933
NoteTag: 4236/4236
Revision: 91/91
Total: 14985/14985

Unfortunately I can't share the .jex file, but the number of notes and items (see above) and a file size of about 420 MB should give a rough idea.

Hope this helps to track down the issue!
