SIMBL Agent Crashes #11

I've had 2 SIMBL Agent crashes in the last 2 days. I have no other information 
aside from the crash 
logs, attached. Thanks for your hard work!

I notice it crashes whenever I start MS Word--Office 2008--but seems to restart 
on
its own as in immediately--working on activity monitor.  I will see if I can 
attach
the Crash Log.

Hmm, this looks like a crash inside Apple's ScriptingBridge framework. Is there 
any other application other than 
MS Word that causes this?

Not that I am aware of.  MS Word consistently does it, but Power Point--both 
Office
2008 fully updated--does not.  I have not noticed it with any other program.

Until I get a copy of Word (unlikely), or another non-commercial application is 
doing this, I'm going to 
deprioritize this. It's definitely annoying, but the Agent will restart, so at 
least it's resilient and it shouldn't affect 
other running applications.

The original bug has nothing to do with Word or the Scripting Bridge. Also, if 
you need a copy of Word, you can 
download a 30 day demo from the M$ site.

I just crashed again.

Both of your bug reports crashed inside the ScriptingBridge itself, not SIMBL. 
What application are you using that 
causes this?  Can you attach your system.log from around the same time?

This log is pretty noisy and there isn't much information.

Can you correlate the Agent crash with the launch of a particular application?

Sorry, no. It was pretty soon after logging in (and loading the login apps).

Hey, I found another application which causes SIMBL to crash and it's BBEdit. 
BBEdit has a live preview agent as 
part of its kit.

Are you referring to mine?  Mine only results when I open MS Word.  Do you need 
me to
attach a different log/report?  It is predictable so I can do it.

I downloaded the BBEdit demo and I don't seem to get any reproducible crash 
event.

As I said, I don't have MS Word and there isn't much I can do about that.

Without having a means of testing, my best guess would be to try and detect 
crashes and blacklist the SIMBL 
Agent from trying to communicated with certain problematic applications.

No. Fortunately, this is most a cosmetic issue since the Agent keeps itself 
loaded. The Agent crashing on 
shouldn't affect loading plugins for normal applications.

You can blacklist an app if you are running SIMBL-0.9.7.

Here's the appropriate command:

defaults write net.culater.SIMBL_Agent SIMBLApplicationIdentifierBlacklist 
-array com.apple.Safari

Found an offending SIMBL plug-in and App combination: Mac OS X 10.6.2, SIMBL 
0.9.7, Afloat 2.2, Mariner Write 
3.9.0. Putting Mariner Write in the blacklist prevented crashing.

Please put this information in a more obvious place to be able to use it more 
quickly.

The minute I start up MS Word (2008), I get a SIMBL crash. See attached crash 
report. Is this issue still 'alive'?

This is a bug inside the scripting framework, not inside SIMBL. The only way to 
not trigger the bug is to blacklist 
problematic applications.

For what it is worth, since the recent update to 10.6.3, starting up M$ Word no
longer temporarily crashes SIMBL agent.  You will note that trueblue2 is still 
on 10.6.2.

I did not try the solution above since 1) I do not understand how to do it and 
2) it
was only a minor annoyance since SIMBL immediately restarts on its own.

Try downloading the Combo-Update for 10.6.3, updating, and see if the problem 
persists.
