Voluntary PASSWORD LOCK of extremely offensive content on personal lbry timelines. #2962

Hello guys (Lbry family), I have a suggestion about something that I feel we should incorporate in the subsequent version of lbry. So here it is; WE NEED A PASSWORD LOCK in addition to the ON/OF selection button, to voluntarily or involuntarily, permanently or temporarily lock explicit content (hardcore pornography, extreme nudity, extreme violance) from individual lbry timelines.

I appreciate the content censorship challenge that lbry serves to address, however, am deeply concerned for the children or teenagers (below 18) and porn addicts undergoing rehab. Parents could use this password (anonymous to their children) to lock their childrens' accounts from accessing this kind of content, and also porn addicts undergoing rehab could randomly enter a password while closing their eyes, so that they don't meet the devil they are escaping from on pornsites, back on lbry.

I believe lbry was created to cater for all age groups and and all kinds of people, and so we could put some things into context. Let's put an extra barrier to that kind of content, and for those who wish to watch it, should only do so if they must. I propose that this password be a one-entry confirmation password (where one doesn't need to retype it for confirmation) so that it perfectly serves the above purpose. I hope you can work on it guys. I would be glad to receive feedback on what you guys think about my proposal. Thanks.

Thanks for creating this issue @samtwahirwa. I think this could work, but could potentially cause more issues than it solves.

Eventually, we will be syncing these settings to android and lbry.tv, I'm not sure how we could sync this setting with a password.

What happens if I add a password and forget it, but then change my mind and want to turn the setting back on?

Will this actually prevent people from seeing this type of content? Some files could be tagged wrong and still be shown to users with this setting on. With lbry.tv they could just create a new account or view the site in a different browser.

I feel like that this is more of a preventative measure, rather than a catch-all blocking feature. People will always get round things like these, this just makes it harder, especially for the curious child.

Thank you for your feedback.

My concern was that if possible lbry makes accessing such content a little harder than just a slide of an ON/OFF button. Whichever means you use to achieve this, it would really be great.

As for intentional tags, that is very possible. But we can as well assume that most times people tag collegues whom they know may like the content they are tagging them in. Even with other social media sites like Facebook, it's quite rare that someone who is not your social media friend or an acquaintance will just randomly tag you to some content.

As for the password, you can maybe create two options either single password entry or double password entry confirmation, where once one is chosen the other automatically deactivates. I don't know if this is possible or not because am not a computer programmer but you could look at it from that angle.

I look forward to hearing from you still.

Thanks.

Sam.
