Updating the project to build with today's tools, some bug fixes and some clean up.

I don't use this code anymore so don't really maintain it, I'm happy to give you commit rights if you prefer.

Sure, that would be great! And thanks for publishing your old code. You never know when someone will find a use for it.

I may have some questions about the design of the library. Should I open issues for that or can I send you e-mail instead?
