Oops. Seems the actual test caught something my scratchpad missed.

Well this runs despite pylance being mad at it

And this doesn't run

Maybe it is actually a pylance bug

Well ok. Yes. This approach was based on my understanding based on pyright/pylance. But they're buggy so this is wrong and won't work
