Extend bf:place and bf:Place definition beyond geographic locations to physical and electronic locations #18

Open sfolsom opened 6 years ago

sfolsom commented 6 years ago

Extend definition beyond geographic locations to physical and electronic locations, as well as locators such as entries in a source and cell coordinates in a table. Electronic locations are relevant to online exhibitions, and it is good practice to define terms broadly for general use. Subclasses can be defined either in BIBFRAME or extensions for specific types of locations.

[This recommendation was made on behalf of the LD4P Art & Rare Materials BIBFRAME Ontology Extension (https://github.com/LD4P/arm).]

@sfolsom Can you please provide examples of physical and electronic locations? With respect to physical, examples that are not obviously geographic.

@kefo we [the follow up group working on the ARM Ontology] just had a use case where we wanted to say that something [e.g. a marking or a label] is located on something, for example on the frame or pedestal.
