Corrupt Save States (some games) #61

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
Try this. Record a save state in Double Dragon II. Then exit the game,
play a different game, THEN exit. THEN play Double Dragon II again, and
load the save state. The graphics will be corrupt. Also happens with
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. However, with TMNT, you can pause the game,
then un-pause and graphics wont be corrupt anymore. Could also happen
with other games, I haven't tested all of them.

What version of the product are you using?
2.0.7.

It happened all previous versions as well.

Please provide any additional information below.

Don't know why some games have corrupt save states, but fixing this would
really make alot of us happy! Thanks!

I checked and this happens for me too. But could you check with FCE Ultra
0.98.12
and see if it happens there?

Checked with PC version of FCE Ultra 0.98.12. No problems whatsoever! Thanks
for
responding. Good Luck!

@dborth.

I noticed that now with version 2.0.8 the save states for Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles are no longer corrupted. BUT, the save states for Double Dragon II ARE
still corrupt. Slight improvement.

I noticed that too, that's why I left this issue open. Thanks for the
confirmation.

I get repeated corrupt states with Little Samson as well. So this appears to
be
random games, not any specific ones. Interesting!

Old Issue... so far these are my findings:

1) This is not an issue of corrupt save states. The save state files are
correct.
This can be confirmed by loading them on the PC version.

2) The real issue is related to the moment of LOADING the save state. For some
reason the sprites displayed at the time the game is loaded are kept in the
video
buffer, and the emulator utilizes them to present the loaded screen.

3) If the sprites loaded in the buffer are renewed, the display becomes fixed.
This
is for example when you change levels in a game. That is why in some games it
becomes fixed when the user pauses/unpauses the game.

4) It might be fixed by clearing the loaded sprites buffer when a game is
loadad, so
the sprites already there won't exist after loading causing the jerkyness.

I have finally successfully updated the core to FCEUX 2.1.0a, that has fixed
this
issue.
