Update from Brian: That is not correct. You only have to create an account to add data to LDbase. The only verification that is required is that a user has to verify their email address in order to send messages within the system. Technically, that only requires that they verify that they have access to the email address that they put into the system.
Tara Reynolds: When people sign up for an account, do they automatically get an email to verify that email address? Or is the verification only sent if they say they want to communicate with/message others? Brian Arsenault: it's automatic. they are asked if they want to allow others to contact them, not if they want to contact others Tara Reynolds: Can you think of any reason why people shouldn't have to verify their email BEFORE they create a project on LDbase? 2nd question: IF they verify their email, that doesn't automatically mean people can message them, correct? (that just means they are given the option to check yes/no people can/cannot message them, right?) Brian Arsenault: If I remember correctly when we discussed it there was concern that requiring an email verification would prevent them from entering data right away. They are given the option to receive emails when they create their account, so they could opt in to receive emails even if they never verify their email address. Not verifying your email address only means that you cannot send messages to others.
Psy team meeting decision: you don't have to verify an email address to upload data for now (extra step could prevent people from getting started with uploading data); we can change in future if we find the need.
You have to be a verified LDbase user in order to create/update data on our repository. So how was project "Snap Earnings Analyses" created? Also, I was going to suspend that user thinking they were spam, but I can't even find them. Is that strange?
