Rikaikun works fine in Gmail's compose message box if it's set to plain text,
but notif it's set to rich formatting.

Yes, it works in the new design.
Are there any other situations in which it doesn't work?
In the few webapps I tried I could find that for example when editing a
document in Evernote it doesn't work. Still, I guess this can't be considered a
priority unless there are some practical cases in which is needed. You could
argue that in gmail (if still using the old interface) you can check the
meaning of words before clicking "Reply", or with Evernote you can just leave
edition mode.

Any idea if there's a common problem in all those websites using a rich text
field? If the same solution can work for all those sites it may be worth
looking into it.

For gmail's old rich compose the problem was that the compose window was an
iframe that was added later without rikaikun loaded in it.

I'm pretty sure this will be a case by case basis. Since gmail is fixed (by
them not us) then I'll close this unless someone complains.
