This seems to be a browser or platform specific issue.

On Firefox mac I can see the characters: https://github.com/learningequality/le-utils/blob/master/le_utils/resources/languagelookup.json#L691-L694

The characters seem to be the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baybayin script (an ancient script) I wonder how often it is used today, so could possibly remove. Main reason to keep it would be as "match-by-native-name" in case we run into a content source tagged with "ᜏᜒᜃᜅ᜔ ᜆᜄᜎᜓᜄ᜔" as language.

(Note: Moving issue to le-utils to keep track of it there)

Yup, no one uses baybayin anymore. Maybe the real and easiest fix here is to just remove that script from the tagalog name!
