Textwidth vs linewidth #129

Closed Skillmon closed 3 years ago

Skillmon commented 3 years ago

In lesson-07 we use \textwidth to scale images relative to the document layout (and continue doing so in more-07 and in more-08 for tables).

I've added some text explaining that one could also use \linewidth, briefly explained the difference and added an exercise so that the users are inclined to explore the differences themselves.

Looks good to me

Note to translators: I also pushed some commits directly to master which made some small changes (sorry for not properly pinging you about these). Those commits were:

@josephwright the minor inaccuracy of \textwidth not always being the width of the text block is fine (think minipage)?

josephwright commented 3 years ago

@Skillmon I think we can get away with that (it's the width of the current galley, but that's not really something we want to get in to).

There were a few text changes, so I'm pinging the translators here (also note my comment above with 4 other commits for which I didn't ping you, again sorry).

Thanks @Skillmon,

Do you think it is worth giving a reference? e.g. https://tex.stackexchange.com/a/16956/174620

@NiranjanTambe I don't think we should give stackexchage references, we only reference stackexchange (lessons 2 and 16) as a general reference to the site for further information. If we need specific references for specific points we should reference the package or format documentation (but I don't think that is needed here)
