Heat map also from data already uploaded #36

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Create the heat maps (especially for cellular) not only from the active session
but also from previous sessions already uploaded to openbmap.

It's frustrating to start at zero every time after uploading data - and
openbmap doesn't offer comparable heat maps yet.

Sorry - don't know how to set the type "Enhancement". It's of course no "defect"

re0167996e204 seems to be the one in which this was added, and it might be the
reason the app got unusable for me with the most recent upgrade, especially if
multiple measurements for one and the same WiFi need to be evaluated on the
fly. (I do have quite an amount of data in my DB, as I have never deleted my
track logs.)

As a suggestion for improvement: do not use the track logs to get past session
data, but process that data into a kind of local WiFi catalog, having the same
DB schema as the downloaded one but created from local data. (Toby, you have my
instructions for rendering data with Mapnik - the first steps load data from
XML files into a DB, process it and add all new WiFis to the catalog. I have
used this extended catalog with earlier versions of Radiobeacon and had no
issues.) This kind of processing can be done as part of the upload.

I can't remember exactly which release made it to F-Droid. More recent versions
have a layer selector above the map view to turn off on-the-fly evaluation

This will be the way to go. I'm already testing this, but there are still some
glitches.. Will follow in one of the releases..

Did you sent something? Especially I would be interested in how you get Mapnik
to render wifi position data? I've already loaded the data into a SpatialLite /
PostGIS, but I'm no Mapnik expert, so I don't have a clue how to proceed..

Just resent it (to your gmail account), in case the first one didn't make it.
Be sure to check your spam folder, just in case...

Sorry about the delay, I've started a new job in October, which is cutting down
on my spare time...
