Player: The player is a survivor from some sort of accident or war in space.... They spawn with an escape pod(?) that has survival equipment...
Planet: The planet is an aquatic planet that has a very hot climate and is almost completely made up of water and small islands. There are no known native sentient species there, but not many scientific explorations have taken place on the island due to its distance from the core region of space. Recent innovations and the possible discovery of a mysterious material known as MESE have made the planet come into light recently. The main governmental body of the planets has declared the planet off limits for all corporations until further research is done. The scientist establish bases around the planet, but an recent war has forced the MGBoP to recall its scientists to help with the war effort...
The Main Governmental Body of the Planets (MGBoP):
Some Generic Business Faction:
The opposing faction to the MGBoP:
Ah, so a space war. How about...
The Main Governmental Body of the Planets has long been the center of attention. Being situated at the center of civilized space, they enjoy the luxury of many worlds, huge populations, giant trade hubs, rich resources, and considerable political clout. They are certainly one of the richest powers in the galaxy.
The outer factions, those not lucky enough to receive amnesties that come with being in the limelight, are resentful of the so called "civilized population". Unlike the bustling economy of the galactic core, they are forced to confront poverty, rampant crime, and a weak voice in the MGBoP. Over time, they've built up massive fleets to try and take the galactic core's resources for themselves.
The scientists working for the MGBoP recently found a fringe, aquatic planet with a rare material. Known as MESE, it attracts the attention of much of MGBoP's higher echelons.
However, they were not the only one to be captivated by the promises MESE brings.
Those on the outside quickly learned of the discovery. They demanded a sample of MESE to revere its magical properties. When MGBoP refused, their jealousy fueled the war machine once more.
Soon, a new power was born. Calling themselves the Forsaken Empire, they sparked massive uprisings, empowering their propaganda with aged legends of how the core factions and the rest of the galaxy again and again neglected their basic needs. They promise to take what they rightfully deserve.
The underlings rise once more, but will they topple the sociopolitical hierarchy, stamped into absolution by countless centuries of political prowess yielded by people better off, and fulfill the promises they made to their brothers and sisters? I suppose we will find out.
I like it
Thanks!
You can have generic business factions, most of which support the MGBoP because it is more powerful, richer, and probably more likely to win. The rest of them support the Forsaken Empire because the MGBoP has too many business regulations.
Edit: Can't wait for the release!
Perhaps the player's original ship (a one-ship science expedition) was destroyed because an earlier experimentation with MESE on an orbiting ship unveiled its extreme electromagnetic abilities, tampering with the on-board fusion core's magnetic containment field. The plasma then expanded, melting past the heat-resistant torus, and rendered the fusion core inoperable. Attempts were made to salvage the situation, but the ship was rapidly sinking into the planet's gravity well. Further attempts to save the ship failed, and the crew was forced to evacuate. However, during the evacuation procedure, due to atmospheric sheer and braking, many perished while trying to get to their escape pods. War situations with the Forsaken Empire occupied available fleets and thus an extraction was not immediately available.
I'm just spit-balling ideas of how the story of the game could go....
