Firefox become unresponsive #36

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. do a google search
2. highlight terms on a search results page using SearchWP highlight button
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Search terms are highlighted but Firefox becomes unresponsive almost to the
point of "Not responding" (occasionally it responds to a click after a long
delay so it is possible to switch off highlighting and regain control).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Vista HP

I think there may be a compatibility problem with google results walker or
another extension but I have not tested. It used to work fine.

Please nail down the specific extension that is incompatible.

I've not tested this with the new version of SearchWP but I've seen this
behavior
several times in Firefox 2.x. It was not related to incompatible extensions.
It's
easy to reproduce:
-use Google to find a heavy book with a long title of which you know that it's
present in Project Gutemberg
-open the found book as full text in firefox
-SearchWP instantly starts highlighting all words of the title thoughout the
entire book
-while SearchWP is busy doing this, firefox is totally non responsive

For me the simple solution of learning to check if highlighting was off before
opening large documents worked. I actually hardly use highlighting any more.
