Review Portuguese Language Translations for the Python Programming Language

In order to review this language to the project, complete the steps detailed in the translation guide (from Step # 6 onward). We are primarily working developing Legesher for the Python programming language. In the future we hope to add more programming languages.

Reviewing a translation is extremely important as we want to best understand the culture and context behind the words we select as keywords for the programming languages. The more perspectives the better! 👀Please take your time in being thorough with these translations. Think back when you were learning how to program and how context of words help you bridge together meaning and functionality.

⚠️ Note: this issue is to review the Python keywords and builtin functions only. Any additional translation reviews are encouraged, but not necessary.

To complete this issue:

Reviewers Needed

In order to add the translations for official use across Legesher, the translations will need to be approved and accepted by 5 additional native / fluent speakers. If you would like to be one of the reviewers for this language, please mention in this issue! Also feel free to loop in a friend that might be able to help with the translations! Please refer to the translation guide for the next step in the review process.

Olá!

I can work on this issue. I'm Brazilian and have an scientific academic background, being familiar with English for several years now. I'll do my best to give you the most accurate translations possible.

madiedgar commented 4 years ago

That would be absolutely amazing @Fayhen!! 😄

Fayhen commented 4 years ago

@madiedgar, I went ahead and made some sample translations for the Python code by going through the documentation, for comparing upon reviewing. I just noticed that pt.yml on both the master and portuguese-translation branches is still missing Python translations, however. Should I wait them out?

If you want, I can add these ready Python translations to an portuguese-translation-additional branch and pull them to your existing portuguese-translation. That is, of course, to be made only if there is no ongoing portuguese work on the Python section, and if it is desired by you and your team, of course. I'd no longer be able to review said translations as well, since I would have authored them.

Thank you for being so thorough with this @Fayhen! Let me merge #50 from @marcuscastelo and that should give a great place to start reviewing. 👍

A PR is coming your way shortly. Since there were a few existing comments on the current translations, I attempted to preserve readability by breaking each contributor's comments into new lines, indented below each word. I have also added my nick to my comments, to have clear communication if needed. Finally, I commented a suggestion on some words lacking translation as well. All of these are just to help and to be edited as needed and wanted.

The Python section on the pt.yml file will be like:

  input: "entrada"
    #Fayhen-✅
  int: "int"
    #Integer -> 'inteiro'
    #Fayhen-✅
  isinstance: ""
#Fayhen-❓ - No translation given at time of review. A suggestion is 'éinstância' (is -> 'é' + instance -> 'instância').
  issubclass: ""
#Fayhen-❓ - No translation given at time of review. A suggestion is 'ésubclasse' (is -> 'é' + instance -> 'subclasse').
  iter: "iter"
#❓ #iterate, iterable, iterative -> 'iterar, iterável, iterativo' (pretty much the same)
    #Fayhen-✅

👍 This would be really helpful for additional reviews 😄

geraldobraz commented 4 years ago

Hello! @madiedgar I can work on this issue too 😄

madiedgar commented 3 years ago

Hey @lucianorc, @geraldobraz, @Fayhen, @marcuscastelo, and @katherinefernandes 👋 , thanks so much for helping with adding to the Portuguese translation. Do you know anyone else who might be interested in contributing to this? Thank you 👍

geraldobraz commented 3 years ago

I would like to contribute again 😄 . And I am going to ask some of my friends too.

lcnunes09 commented 3 years ago

Hello @madiedgar ! I'm interested to contribute.

madiedgar commented 3 years ago

Awesome @lcnunes09! I assigned you to the issue, just let me know if you have any questions 👍

fernandakawasaki commented 3 years ago

I would like to help too! Also, maybe we should specify that this is a brazilian portuguese translation? I don't know a lot about the other portuguese speaking countries (such as Portugal and Angola), but some words might vary.

madiedgar commented 3 years ago

That's very insightful @fernandakawasaki, do you have any thoughts on how we can denote that? I'll look into your PR shortly too 👍

fernandakawasaki commented 3 years ago

I'm not sure @madiedgar . We usually specify it as 'pt-BR' (IETF language tag - there is no ISO standard code for Brazilian Portuguese)

madiedgar commented 3 years ago

That's really helpful @fernandakawasaki 👍 I posed this question for discussion in our discord channel for additional feedback as this is something that has come up in other language translations.

lucianorc commented 3 years ago

Hey @lucianorc, @geraldobraz, @Fayhen, @marcuscastelo, and @katherinefernandes , thanks so much for helping with adding to the Portuguese translation. Do you know anyone else who might be interested in contributing to this? Thank you

I would like to contribute again too.

madiedgar commented 3 years ago

Amazing @lucianorc !! You can always add additional programming language translations and I'll accept the PR. We're wanting to finalize Python first, but until we have enough reviewers to begin that process, translate away!!! 👍

annezao commented 2 years ago

@madiedgar Is there a position for one more reviewer? 🥺👉👈

madiedgar commented 2 years ago

Absolutely @annemacena That would be incredible!! 👍 Let me know if you need any help.
