Hmm, the MIDISPORT 4x4 requires the firmware to be downloaded, and the pulsing indicates that the downloader has indeed done it's job. Do you see the 4x4 within the Apple "Audio MIDI Setup.app" applications MIDI devices panel? The MIDISPORT 8x8 has inbuilt firmware, and does not rely on downloading the firmware, it should start pulsing it's USB LED once connected? Do you still see the issue with "hangs/then crashes out" with the "Audio MIDI Setup.app" on the most recent version of MacOS you are using? If not, which application is hanging or crashing?
Hello Leigh,
Many thanks for giving this project out to the community - most generous.
I've been successfully using a MIDISport 4x4 on a 2013 Mac Pro under macOS Big Sur; I've now just upgraded to a Mac Studio running macOS Monterey (12.6.4), and the sheer presence of the driver in /Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers prevents AudioMIDI Setup from opening - even with the MIDISport disconnected.
Please let me know how I can help provide info to diagnose this!
I think this may be an M1 chip issue, as this has all worked fine on my macbook air with the same OS.
midi sport 4x4 is pulsing. but the midi set cannot see the 8x8 and hangs / then crashes out.
