Schedule, tournaments and skins #110

  1. Remove ties, add overtime

It's simple really, just add "mp_overtime_enable 1" to the server.cfg and remove draw/tie option in the app. I feel like it adds onto the realism as most pro CS games don't have draws/ties anymore (even though it does fit the system pretty well).

  1. Remove tournaments overlapping

I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like tournaments overlapping is pretty bad. I end up playing 3 tournaments at the same time and then, after the season ends, I end up skipping 4-6 months of the year. I feel like if we had a dedicated calendar for tournaments it would leave much less empty space and waiting between seasons even if the tournaments would be played on the same date every year. Also pro CS tour doesn't have breaks larger than a month and a half anyway.

  1. Skins (if possible)

Again, a personal idea of mine, but a server-side skins plugin might be cool as most of us don't have over-the-top high budget inventories as pros do. I found this plugin (https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=298770) so maybe it can help.

  1. Tournaments instead of leagues + Major

I think that playing tournaments is much more realistic than playing leagues. League + season-end finals is cool, but I think that with tournaments it's more realistic + you can make a world leaderboard similar to the HLTV rankings that's easier to "measure" aka having points for each team. You can make tournaments that mimic the real ones by structure (i.e ESL Pro League - 4 groups of 6 Teams + Play-Offs, Major - Swiss Bracket + Play-Offs etc.)

I have to add that the game is amazing itsself and I'd still continue playing it as is. These are some feature recommendations rather than requests but I'd be happy to hear back on if it's possible and if it will be added. I have to say congrats to the dev(s) on making a great game that brings me to my childhood when I used to pretend I'm a pro in a server with bots haha. Thanks a lot in advance!

Update... of sorts:

I didn't look through other issues until now and didn't realise that custom skins was already in plans so sorry for that, but I still hope that my link can help in development :D

Hey, thanks for giving the app a try and I'm glad you're enjoying it.

brings me to my childhood when I used to pretend I'm a pro in a server with bots haha

I used to do this too hahah + play FIFA so this app is kind of a merger of the two!

Now onto the suggestions.

Remove ties, add overtime

Good suggestion! What I think I will do is add this as a setting where you can control whether you want to enable ties or not.

FWIW, the app currently does support overtime but it is only enabled for knockout tournaments or when you reach the playoffs in the Minor or Majors.

Remove tournaments overlapping

It's not just you! There is indeed a large gap of 3-4 months where no matches are played. Especially early on, when you're not making deep runs into the Majors or Minors.

I did model this after FIFA career mode which is something you see there. That 3-4 months gap was originally meant for like a "transfer window" where you could make transfers because otherwise they'd be locked during the regular season. I have to circle back to that... or spread out the existing tournaments until I figure out what to do there.

Skins (if possible)

Yup! Thanks for the link. I'm thinking about rolling out my own but it's def in the roadmap! In #80, I think it was, we discussed integrating this into the app's economy so it has more uses rather than just buying the training boosts. Definitely something I wanna do in the future.

Tournaments instead of leagues + Major

This one is interesting. The last time I did some research on Liquipedia when implementing the competitions foundation, the Major/Minor format (qualifiers, champions/legends/etc stages) was the status-quo. It has changed on me again 😅

I really like the world leaderboard idea.

I will say I am particularly fond of the domestic league but I think I can re-work the existing Major/Minor structure to be more similar to the existing pro-scene tournaments you mentioned.

Thank you for the feedback! 😀
