more return types #45

Currently the API can only return JSON. This was something that was planned to be fixed while working on #39 as the earlier planned implementation gave a build in function to implement this.

The new plan on how to fix #39 however does not give access to a function like this and thus it isn't planned as part of #39 anymore.

The current planned supported methods are

maybe others if people want them.

added wontfix label as right now I have no desire or need to implement it.
