recomple only changed files #507

What change would like to see?
I'd like to see arduino only recompiling source files that have changed (and 
keeing the old .o files from previous compiles).  

Why?
Because when you have a lot of source files and a lot of code it take a long 
time to compile an arduino project.

Would this cause any incompatibilities with previous versions?  If so, how
can these be mitigated?
Not that I can see.
