To address this issue (email from AWS)

Hello,

You are receiving this notification because you have one or more Amazon RDS for MySQL database instances running on db.m4, db.r4, or db.t2 instance types. We plan to retire all M4, R4, and T2 instances by April 2024. We recommend that you upgrade all your db.m4, db.r4, or db.t2 instance types prior to their retirement. Reserved instances for db.m4, db.r4, and db.t2 will no longer be available for purchase beginning on June 30, 2023.

Your affected Amazon RDS for MySQL instances are listed in "Affected Resources" tab of the AWS Health Dashboard.

Your RDS for MySQL database may also have to be upgraded to a version supported by the instance types you chose to migrate your db.m4, db.r4, or db.t2 instances to. We recommend that you upgrade your database engine to MySQL 8.0.28 or higher. For more details on supported RDS DB instance classes for each engine version please refer to the Amazon RDS user guide [1].

How will my reserved instance(s) be impacted?

If you have Reserved Instances (RI) on M4, R4, or T2, DO NOT migrate your M4, R4, or T2 instances. RDS automation will migration your instances to M6i, R6i, or T3 instance types respectively when the deadline approaches. If you do not want your RI migrated to M6i, R6i, or T3, you will be able to cancel your RI on M4, R4, or T2 after you create new Reserved Instances for the same value or higher with with any other instance type of your choice. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact AWS Premium Support [2].

Migrated from db.t2.micro to db.t4g.micro. Should be faster and more efficient at same cost.
