Instagram and Facebook accounts for WordCamp Central #10

We have previously discussed the growth and sustainability of official social media accounts. I would like to propose an Instagram account for WordCamp Central and WordPress.org along with a Facebook account for WordCamp Central. It won’t require too much extra bandwidth as we can curate the same content we are sharing on Twitter and use a scheduling tool to share on all platforms at the same time & reach a wider community audience. I’d be happy to write a detailed proposal for it.

Just a note that the WP Marketing team was able to recover the wordpress and @wordcamp` Instagram accounts recently. The team is already using the WordPress handle for posts, and we can seek their help or collaborate with them on the WordCamp handle too. We don’t have a Facebook account yet, but that’s also something that can be explored too.

As a segue to this idea, we could definitely look at marketing projects. for community team to amplify our work too. I think this would tie in directly with our projects as well.

This is good to have. I think we need to review content and who handles these accounts.

It would be great if when WordCamps are held, we could ask organizers to send us banners to post on WordCamp.org along with photos of each city to post on Instagram.

Initially, we can start posting what we are already preparing for the Twitter account (probably a few tweaks only) and once the accounts get running, we can plat platform-specific content.

I think this could be part of some kind of an outreach program, including newsletters. Although, perhaps it is better to have one newsletter with different sections for different roles Deputies/Mentors or WordCamp/Meetup organizers.

Although Instagram might need more resources in terms of preparing the images. Twitter and Facebook are easier to share links to posts/pages.

I like the idea of attendees and organizers being able to tag WC Central on stories on IG and FB. I think we should decide if it is better to use the profile with a strategy and so create a content calendar and align style of written and visual and have all the admin trained on it; or if it's better to start in a more "freestyle" way and post content with a specific plan during the first months.
