Posibility to set the "On Break" duration #29

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Work until you hear the ring
2. Take break
3. Realize you have been 40 min on break
4. Facepalm

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Ring at 5 min break

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.5, Windows 7

Please provide any additional information below.
The pomodoro technique advices 5 min breaks every 25 and a longer break
after 4 pomodoros.

It would be really nice if after a configurable short break time the timer
would restart itself (or have the option to). Also, being able to configure
the long break duration and the pomodoros between them would be excelent to
comply with the actual technique.

I would vote that it should still require me to manually *start* the next
pomodoro. I
might be off at lunch / doing something else when the break finishes.

And yes the length of the break should be configurable.

This is my number one request.

Oh, I unadvertedly repeated this request in issue #43. Sorry.

For me, it is more important to have an acoustic reminder each 5 minutes, than
being
able to configure the duration. After all, the book states that these pauses do
not have a
strict duration.

I agree with op. I guess break timer would be a count-up from zero that would
trigger a ring at 5 mins every 5 minutes and keep counting. I currently use
FocusBooster which has a break time countdown but then it just stops. I never
know how long I've gone over the break. Ideally, the day's aggregate of excess
break time (over 5 minutes) should be available.

I agree. I think the users should be allowed to set the duration of a break,
and also after a certain number of Pomodoros, there should be an extended
break. The PDF suggests 3-5 minutes for regular breaks and 15-20 minutes every
4 Pomodoros.

I concur. Also, setting it to start the new pomodoro automatically would be
great as well!!

This will require multiple configuration imo:
1. Short break time
2. Long break time
3. How many short breaks between long breaks

I agree with op.
The pomodoro technique says that the break should be 5 mins long, not longer,
so I'd like to hear a ring when it's over.

I like idea with extra options for break lengths + option of extended break so
I don't have to think if it's time for long or short break.

Would be great to see alarm after selected number of minutes ( probably 5
minutes for short break, 15 for long one - configurable) but for sure DO NOT
start next pomodoro automatically.

Someone can be sill away from desk, want to change task for next pomodoro etc.

Only show alarm and still count...

In my opinion limited time of break in the most important missing feature.
I often find myself taking longer breaks then planned :|

Btw, statistics for breaks lengths would be also great.

I am currently looking into this. It will be a somewhat naive implementation on
the first version, i.e. the pomodoro counter will not take long away times into
consideration.

Thanks for adding this. I have added a new bug report; #95 The taskbar does not
flash when the break is over. Other than that it works great.
