Symbian: keyboard disappears system wide after one day of usage #51

In Symbian the keyboard disappears system wide after one day of usage. This bug was introduced with the keyboard workarounds in version 1.1 and makes using TAOT impossible. Please solve this annoying issue (my recommendation is to use the code from cuteTube2 and cuteRadio, the solution choosen there worked for several weeks without any problems)

Hi Kay,

Did you try version 1.3.0 (released just yesterday)? It uses approach very similar to cuteTube2.

Hi Oleksii,

yes, I installed it yesterday 18:30, used it several times and this evening the issue occured again. So I am really disappointed, because I used cuteTube2 and cuteRadio (Stuart released new versions recently) and had no problems with the keyboard.

Do you remember the issues after the very first attempt to solve the problem: the locking of the phone and also switching to an other app with keyboard open triggered the translation. Maybe these workarounds have an impact?

If anyone else has the issue of a disappearing keyboard (also the toolbar of other apps disappears) after a day or more of usage on Symbian and knows the reason or possible reason for that, please report your experience here.

It appears everytime first in the Nokia Internet browser and is then system wide. Sometimes I get also a memory full error message in the Nokia Internet browser, so the issue maybe related with a memory leak of an app.

Oleksii please investigate, if your code may produce a memory leak.

please close this issue. An other app is responsible for this issue (memory leak). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for sharing and sorry for not replying to you. I have a huge e-mail backlog to address, but except for fixing Google Translate service, I didn't have time for TAO Translator recently.

So, if the other app is removed, does the latest TAO Translator work fine (with regards to the keyboard)?

Hi Oleksii,

oh no, I am not sure anymore. Maybe I have two problems, a memory leak and a keyboard issue. To find out, it would be helpful, if you answer my last email (Keyboard issue). Please tell me exactly the keyboard problems of other users with TAOT version 1.1 and 1.2. Then I can compare it with my problems and decide, if it is the same or something else. I think and hope there are no keyboard problems reported by other users with version 1.3 / 1.3.1.

Hi Oleksii,

I can confirm now, that I have indeed two problems: a memory leak caused by an other app (developer has confirmed it and will solve it) and this keyboard problem.

I can only repeat myself: I think it's caused by the keyboard workarounds introduced in version 1.1. The solution Stuart Howarth has implemented in cuteTube2 (input fields in network settings screen) works fine without side effects. Please remove the workarounds and use the cuteTube2 implementation.
