assign_indexclass - doesn't work in all cases #85

Describe the bug Fails for values of "" and NA. Also fails for user input column names.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to '...'
  2. Click on '....'
  3. Scroll down to '....'
  4. See error
