We tend to use contributors now also to indicate author roles in publishing datasets.

Check here for example:

https://github.com/lexibank/allenbai

The CONTRIBUTORS.md file: https://github.com/lexibank/allenbai/blob/master/CONTRIBUTORS.md

What is new from now on is that the persons creating the CLDF, in this case you, @arubehn, assign themselves the role of the editor, while the author is the person having published the original data. It is like you make a new edition of Kant, and you will say Kant has authored that edition, but you edited it.

My role can be "Other", as I have only consulted you, @arubehn, you could be the Editor here. Roles are directly interpreted by Zenodo later on.

Thanks for pointing me towards that. Two questions:

  1. Would every co-editor of the ALT be a DataCollector or an Author?
  2. What role would Simonetta have? She contributed to the original ALT, but she is also the one who derived the raw data we have here from the ALT.

DataCollector is not as important as Author in my opinion. I'd say: assign them all the role Author. Also, add a NOTES.md, in which you mention Simonetta as the one who created the dump of the data. You can make her an Editor of the CLDF version as well.

Sounds good, thank you!
