Languages Dropped in Final Analysis #16

Closed LinguList closed 1 week ago

LinguList commented 2 years ago

I just went to the most recently published file of the lexical evidence in the form of an Excel spreadsheet.

This file now drops several languages that were in there before, like Korean, Eastern Evenki, and Southern Evenki.

What I do not understand is why Korean and the other languages were dropped, although they were given etymologies.

Is this something one should comment on? Should we run a test with the languages included? I mean, it is strange they drop a language like Korean in the end...

@SimonGreenhill, @HansonMenghan, @robinryder @rgyalrong @tpellard @RustyGray do you know of any reasons why one would exclude these langauges or woudl it impact on the results?

This was also done retrospectively in the BEAST XMLs (as far as I can tell).

RustyGray commented 2 years ago

That can create all zero columns issues. Simon have you checked if the published version still has those problems? Mattis, do you want me to ask Remco why they dropped those languages? Cheers, Russell.

Very nice, did you upload to this or the other (new) repository?

HansonMenghan commented 2 years ago

We have uploaded to this repository (URL: matters-arising/Tao and Zhang-Linguistic analysis on Robbeets data.zip at main · digling/matters-arising (github.com))

Is there something wrong?

I have found the problem that I cannot link to the github. :( I have uploaded the Altaic cognate table from Starostin database, and Sino-Tibetan binary-coded cognate dataset into the data branch of the matters-arising repository. Please check it.
