Pentecost Languages? #14

Closed maryewal closed 3 years ago

maryewal commented 3 years ago

I've just realised that none of the Pentecost languages are visible yet. @xrotwang, they are these ones in Sound Comparisons: Raga: Loltong Bay Raga: Lolkasai Sa F.: Rangusuksu Sa F.: Ponof Sa: ‘General’ Sa F.: Yangtus Sa: Paangi Sa: Bunlap Sa: Ranwas Sa: Haa

Let me know if you need more information or if I can help.

Yes, I noticed that and wondered what was up. R.

xrotwang commented 3 years ago

Sorry, they have been filtered out by a query, because the are classified as isolates. They are back now: https://vanuatuvoices.clld.org/languages

maryewal commented 3 years ago

Thanks - can we change them from "Isolate" to "Austronesian" like the others?

xrotwang commented 3 years ago

@maryewal if all languages are classified as Austronesian anyway, we could skip using the Glottolog-family plugin, and rather provide island names or similar to categorize varieties?

maryewal commented 3 years ago

Island names would be great.

RustyGray commented 3 years ago

Hi, I see they are back. Good thanks. Curious that GL classifies them as isolates. Cheers, R.

xrotwang commented 3 years ago

@maryewal On sndcmp there's the pseudo-region "Multiple". Does that mean there's a many-to-many relation between island and variety? Where would we get Island names from in these cases?

maryewal commented 3 years ago

It's no problem for me to add the names manually if you tell me where to do it.

xrotwang commented 3 years ago

@maryewal you could add a column "Islands" here: https://github.com/lexibank/vanuatuvoices/blob/master/etc/languages.csv

maryewal commented 3 years ago

cool, will do. Thanks for coaching me through this - I'm learning!

Done, committed.
