Hero TMob UK on 2.1 stock ROM - I see the same issue with the unread "Badge" on
the stock HTC messaging app - but the messages are read when you open the app.

This is apparently an HTC specific issue - other SMS replacement apps have the
same problem - perhaps SMS Popup could offer asumb shortcut to the stock
messaging app as a replacement for the HTC "pseudo smart" icon?

I'm using an LG-P500 Android v2.2 and the SMS unread count (ie: the one
displayed on the lock screen) is not decremented after close or reply via SMS
pop up.

Same problem here on a Samsung Galaxy Apollo. The messaging icon on the bottom
of the screen shows 1, although in the messaging app it looks like it has
correctly been marked as read by SMSPopUp. Only way to clear the icon is to go
into the messaging app and look at the thread for the person who sent the
message.
Looks like the messaging icon is getting set to 1 on receiving a message, and
probably only gets updated on leaving a message thread? If this is the case
SMSPopUp just needs to trigger this check or set to 0 somehow?

I have the same issue on my Samsung Galaxy I9000 on stock ROM. Please try to
fix this, as it's pretty annoying and this working would make your app
excellent!
Thanks :)

I forgot: what's worse is that if you only have 1 SMS and delete it via the
popup button, then there's no way to decrement the unread notification, as
you'll have no other sms to read from the stock app!
You have to send yourself an sms, open that one and read it in the stock app in
order for it to show no unreads. I wonder what would happen if you would keep
deleting the sms that you sent to yourself from the popup: the counter would
keep incrementing and you'd have to send all those messages again to yourself
to read them and decrement the counter! :O

A fully revamped version of SMS Popup is now available in the Google Play
Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.everythingandroid.smspopup
I am closing out all old issues/bugs that relate to SMS Popup <=1.10 as so much
was changed in this version. Please create new issues if you see them in the
latest update.
