Universal Control ignores when "automatically reconnect" is turned off

I was using Universal Control with "automatically reconnect" for a while. I stopped because of:

Therefore, I unchecked the bottom box here:

However, the iPad still seems to auto-connect through Universal Control sometimes.

I think the second setting ("push through the edge") may be at fault; I'm going to try turning it off.
