It is possible to craft in one of the numbered freighter inventories by pressing E/X on an existing item in a slot. However, this only supports using items from the same inventory.
This differs from crafting in the exosuit/starship/exocraft/main freighter inventories, each of which can themselves draw from any numbered freighter inventory (when you're in a part of your freighter where you could pull up that inventory itself). So the mismatch in functionality can be unexpected, and particularly annoying when combined with other bugs and game limitations.
