No Man's Sky: Planetary features can't be found by visual search because they require being super close to render #193

It is common to arrive somewhere in a starship with rough target coordinates that require looking in a radius of several hundred units for the actual target. I often try to do this by flying around for a few extra seconds to see if I can spot it, instead of having to land and scan (which can cost fuel / time / exosuit resources).

However, the game sometimes leaves features unloaded unless you get super close. This means that it's possible for you to literally be looking at something that you are searching for, only for it to appear after you turn away and look elsewhere.

I try to treat this as a sort of charming diegetic quirk — as if my starship sensors are bugging out and somehow masking terrain features. But it still feels like this goes against the spirit of exploration and "play your own way" on which No Man's Sky was founded, in favor of chasing down cue after cue from scanners.
