@aSemy heads up on this one - reverting back to jvm 1.8

Fixes some issues, and it will keep the library more broadly usable. I think it was a mistake moving to 11 at this stage... 1.8 still very popular jvm I think.

Opinions?

I'll take a look - but yes keeping it on 1.8 is a good option for libraries, so they can be widely used.
