Different editions of an original work #1

Is this just a new original work or can you have several versions of an original work. With the consequence that translates had to tranlslate or just edit a new edition. On the other hand we had to find and mark sections which changed in the latter case.

Can you quickly define "original work". Are we talking about the source material?

dgilge commented 6 years ago

yes, source material

You mean something like Great Controversy 1888 and the new Great Controversy? Or mire like in general Book X Edition 1, 2, 3. What makes more sense? If we treat it as one original work, we would need the database structure to save several editions of it, but would have the liberty to add more if the future will produce more, without having to translate everything again. But then again, translations would need to be updated, with "based on Book X Edition Y" marker. If we would treat it as a new original work, we would need to find a system of associating them with one another. I would say we treat it as one original work.
