ESC press doesn't work as expected under vi #225

Describe the bug ESC press doesn't work as expected under vi.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. open vi, try to esc / :q!

Or:

  1. open vi, press i and try to esc from INSERT mode.
