I have a similar problem as Franck, but I have it at the android app end.
I use Windows7, I downloaded the GPE 2.4.2 and GWT 2.4.0. I created a new "App
Engine Connected Android Project". But when I run it on a virtual machine
(which runs Android2.2), I always get the error "C2DM example: failed to
register/unregister". Can you give me some insights on this? Do I have to
change anything after I created the project?
BTW. I have signed up for the C2DM service and have received the confirmation
email.

try to put at the end of the url: /yourProjectName.html
for example: http://________.appspot.com/CloudTasks.html

You should wait 48 hours and try again and don't use a jre greater than 6 !

I found the problem:
I have to debug as "Local App engine connected Android application", not
"Android application"

I had the same problem, but this post[1] describes very good all the steps you
need to do to fix it.
Linux 11.04, Android version 2.2 Google api 8.

For me it works by adding to Util.java 's method getDebugUrl(Context context)
"replace" the existing return statement with this line
return new String ("http://10.0.2.2:8888");
OS: ubuntu 11.04

@Franck: If you create the project from sample source, then you need to specify
your app ID. Open Android project, browse to [your-package].Setup.java, change
this:
private static final String APP_NAME
to your app ID. Hope it works :-)
