Hi, I really like your text. I'm always propose to use RMarkdown to my students and collaborates. What I'd like to see in your text is a list of problems that need to be solved:

• trees (could be solved with LaTeX and html, but there should be a solution for Word), complex tree-like phonological structures
• semantic maps like this
• glossed examples (there are a lot of solutions for LaTeX, but they are not good for html and Word)
• ...

Sorry about replying so late.
I thought nobody would open an issue here, so I didn't watch this repo.

Among the list of problems, I've only thought about solving the 'tree' problem. My first thought was to generate trees as images in R Markdown (maybe by wrapping a JS library in R?). That might provide a solution for all output formats.

But since I'm not familiar with JavaScript, and I'm currently working on another project, I can't invest much time to explore possible solutions now.

Anyway, I'm really happy you opened the issue, and I will think more about this in my spare time. Thanks!
