Is the example itself GPLv3? If so, I can't use it.

libSDL2pp is zlib.

Yes, it is a template of GPL3+ licensed project.

Doesn't that make the template itself GPLv3?

That means the template can't be used for GPLv2, Apache, MIT, BSD, zlib, isc, etc.

Not sure. Anyway, to support multiple licenses it should probably be converted to a script which generates and populates a repo. Patches are welcome.
