Calendar+ is better: Get it approved. #138

Open farson2003 opened 9 years ago

I am being blunt here: Calendar+ has more features than Calendar"simple".

It should get approved ASAP and moved over to the ownCloud organization to get more attention and replace Calendar.

I think @deepdiver1975 has already planned with @jancborchardt and @libasys to move it ;) What is the status?

jancborchardt commented 9 years ago

As already mentioned in https://github.com/libasys/calendarplus/issues/53#issuecomment-132499065:

The criteria are not yet fulfilled, most notably:

  • minimum of 2 active maintainers and contributions from others
  • security audited and design reviewed

Most importantly the first point:

The issue stems mostly from just one person working on this app. @libasys @georgehrke @raghunayyar please talk, set up a call or something so you coordinate Calendar development! Also cc @enoch85 @mdik @schiesbn @RandolfCarter since you are also interested in helping.

Sorry but to say it bluntly: @DeepDiver1975 and me can’t play babysitters all the time, you need to get your act together and work towards one common goal to provide poeple with one awesome Calendar app.

georgehrke commented 9 years ago

@libasys Is there any chance you can make a very late appearance at conf? I'll be here all the days that are left.

libasys commented 9 years ago

no chance, i am sorry!

aspdye commented 9 years ago

Why dont we combine Calendar+ and Calendar? This time, Calendar Core is more stable and the UI is much more integrated into OwnCloud.

@jancborchardt Sorry. I have thougt that you are the coordinators for such projects. ;)

libasys commented 9 years ago

What would you like to combine? And sorry this app is more stable from server side & syncing! Please read all the open issues and not commited PR's on the default calendar app and about further developement!

A good start would be to acknowledge the lots of similarities rather than the few differences. :) Any app needs to be a team effort or it’s deemed to be short-lived.

Please communicate and work together @libasys @georgehrke @raghunayyar @RandolfCarter – you’re the people most interested in working on a proper Calendar, so please find a way and technological foundation to do that together. This will also make it easier for new contributors to come in and be a more welcoming community. Do not try to walk alone, it will not make for a stable app.

Indeed - Calendar as well as Contacts are important apps to enable OC to be used as a single group collaboration platform (i.e. getting rid of Exchange, other groupwares etc.) Please stick your heads together. :-)

It is already going to happen with the DAV app, but just today I found bug in ContactsPlus the fix for it could directly take from Contacts: https://github.com/libasys/contactsplus/issues/75

@georgehrke , @raghunayyar and @libasys : Are you communicating to @deepdiver1975 what functionality you need to have in the DAV app and how the datastructures may look best? And if not already contributing to the DAV app, are you converging your code in regard to DAV functionality (a lot looks like just wrappers around sabredav to me anyway)?
