Which maps to be used in Contact + #65

I am testing the new maps feature of contact+. However I am not really happy with http://open.mapquest.com. First of all one have to register again with a new service (even more data collection) and second it is heavily US based. Switch the map to German was not successful at all.

My suggestion is to use the owncloud maps app, to minimize work and efforts to integrate another maps application into contact+, to maintain a common data basis, to minimize bug hunting.

Currently there is no app published, but the master will give a good impression of the upcoming app.

this is the same map as the app map works with! they also work with mapquest and leaflet!

Thanks for your feedback! For me as an ordinary user, the maps and the handling looks totally different!

There's no need to register to use the maps service. To switch to german language, the link is http://open.mapquest.de/ Contacts+ does give the address as a parameter to a map service (link).

Maybe it can be enhanced that way, that one can define a link to map service oneself? So one can use google maps using a link like that: http://maps.google.com/?q=ADDRESS or german version of openmaps: http://open.mapquest.de/?q=ADDRESS

I think the map should be in the contacts+, cause here is the direct point of view contacts and not on a seperate map app! what do you think? perhaps i can add a settings entry for activating or not the map! i think open.mapquest.com is ok you need here not so much translation, or not?

Openstreetmap doesnt work? I think OSM ist more actual than maprequest.

@libasys Everything is ok. As long as it doesn't depend on subscriptions or registrations or additional owncloud apps. For me english gui in maps is no problem. But maybe some owncloud admins don't like that for their customers. But maybe I didn't wrote clear enough, what I think about: Actual the app uses a hardcoded link in source code plus a dynamic part for address. My proposual has been to make this hardcoded part customizeable by admin of the owncloud. I think nearly all map services in web understand a comma separated querystring for an address and provide a link, where this can be attached behind. I tested it with german mapquest and google maps and both can be feed with the same quer string for the address as you generate for international mapquest. It should not be an option setable by normal owncloud account but by ownloud admin for all accounts!

To make it clear: With my proposal, I have not been talking about the "world map feature", showing all contacts in a map (button with world map). I've been talking about the magnifier behind every contacts address, that shows the location of this single address in a map.

The "world map feature" is nice like it is and works well from my point of view. This is and has to be integrated and is more or less language independent. It shows cities or countries in english and native language and this is fine, I think.

I certainly prefer Open Street map as well compared to http://open.mapquest.de/ !

Besides that, i personallky do not need translation (since i am multilingual). However, i think about users, who do not speak any other other language besides their native (german) language!
