Project Mailing List #311

Open jflopezfernandez opened 3 years ago

jflopezfernandez commented 3 years ago

The TODO file contains the following snippet.

The following enhancements are being considered for Check. Please send an email to \<check-devel at lists dot sourceforge dot net> if you would like to assist in any of these, or if you would like to suggest additional enhancements. Also please check the various trackers at the Check project website.

Is this email address still current?

brarcher commented 3 years ago

That email address is still current. One can signup here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/check/lists/check-devel

Before the project moved to GitHub it was hosted on Sourceforge. The email address came from that time. We've not created an alternative yet. That might be something worth doing. GitHub does not have anything like that (or, I don't think so anyway). Maybe a Google group or something might be a good alternative. Have anything in mind?

Is it more typical for questions to be raised in GitHub instead (like this question) and not use a mailing list?

jflopezfernandez commented 3 years ago

I've seen both cases, actually, but I just didn't know the mailing list existed, since I found the project through GitHub. Should I use the mailing list for these questions instead?

brarcher commented 3 years ago

I'm thinking that I prefer GitHub, actually. I'm not sure how easy it is for someone to find the mail archive for Sourceforge. The issue archive from GitHub may seem more official, as it is where the project is being hosted.

Maybe the docs should say to ask questions on GitHub now, and the mail lists should be deprecated.

Sounds good to me. I'll submit a PR with the changes once I finish up the one I'm working on.
