PayPal has suspended our account because https://liberapay.com/Hope_For_Pets claims to collect donations for an animal shelter in Cuba.

Here's a copy of the email from PayPal:

Les réglementations des États-Unis interdisent actuellement l'achat ou la vente de plusieurs biens et services en provenance ou à destination des régions/pays suivants : Cuba.

Am I right to understand that because Hope_for_pets doesn't comply with USA regulation, then PayPal blocked liberapay's paypal account? That sounds strange to me.

Funding Open Source | Sentry

Late last year we received an email from a group of people at Indeed. Sentry had been nominated to be a recipient of Indeed’s FOSS Contributor Fund. Since we recently raised a fairly hefty sum in venture capital, we instead offered to redistribute the award, and Sentry would also contribute to the funds.

Regarding the issue with this Hope for pets problem, I think we should try not to be overhelmed by our emotion: this could indeed be a fake account and this is not our job to do moderation on users using Liberapay.

The goal of the platform is to give people the possibility for creator to receive money for their work. Since it is hard to detect if user are indeed real creator or just using a brand or cause to whitened money, we should let our payement provider do the job for us as long as we are not able to totally automating a fake detection process (which seems impossible I suppose).

I had another idea about funding Liberapay moderators on Liberapay.

Almost a month after the announcement of the automatic renewal feature, 60 donors have clicked on the “Yes, activate automatic renewals” button in the Giving page, and 36 have clicked on the “No” button.
