Reinstating Nitter #934

Closed aritus007 closed 4 months ago

There is no "Twitter" option within the Add-on's Preferences Page.

Is redirecting Twitter an option, or is taken out?

Thanx

IkelAtomig commented 5 months ago

It is taken out. The original project that is used to redirect Twitter, Nitter is dead.

@IkelAtomig since nitter is working again maybe it's time to revisit? Not sure if we should ask some instance maintainers first because it could spawn a lot of traffic (maybe, maybe not)? https://status.d420.de/

IkelAtomig commented 5 months ago

In my Opinion, Why not ?

But I would like to hear the community input and also from fellow team member hear. We need to more decisive about this. Let's see about this shortly.

ManeraKai commented 5 months ago

It's not working again or something. The website explained it well: https://status.d420.de/rip

pm4rcin commented 5 months ago

I have used nitter.poast.org for a long time. Recently xcancel.com is my go to as the RSS works there. Yesterday those red instances were all green so either something's changed or they don't have enough real accounts.

IkelAtomig commented 5 months ago

Now, Most of the instances that seemed working seems to be down with only top 3 left out.

Cronos-lab commented 4 months ago

It would be interesting to put it back. I had to reinstall the Nitter Redirect addon to go to Twitter sometimes.

Impeta commented 4 months ago

I'm not convinced of the decision behind removing Nitter to begin with. Libreddit and other two Reddit frontends are all but only two barely stable instances to use as well, so why wasn't that removed either?

Please reinstate Nitter.

i was also looking for twitter, i found this project, in their website they shows currently working instances of various frontend services, i got the link from there. another useful feature to add with be custom redirect urls based on regex. i know this project on github that does this. i see this useful in many scenario

ivan-gj commented 4 months ago

Hello! There is (I believe) no reason to delete these settings from the extension, as the user can do it themselves if the project is not working anymore... and, as we've seen many times, these things come back eventually, always. Specially for such big websites.

So, yes, please, bring back Twitter redirections!

Alright

opusforlife2 commented 4 months ago

It would be great if a new version could be released soon. Manually editing Twitter links is a pain.
