Possibly the main issue in Retroarch.

When starting Retroarch configured to full screen randomly stuck freeze the GUI or closing content. Tested using Linux Lubuntu (Ubuntu with LXQT) 21.04 and nvidia latest drivers. The problem happen even changing several GUI options (video OpenGL , Vulkan , disable sync and etc ).

Retroarch start and GUI interface menu are created and displayed on screen , but in exact moment that happen the scroll animation with menus to correct position happen the stuck freeze. The GUI is freeze with not keyboard or game controller input and also freeze the OS not being possible alternate to another software. Only after several seconds that randomly can be more than 1 minute happen little scroll in menu not totally moving to correct position. After more several seconds return keyboard and game controller input. When closing content happen exactly all above. That problem not happen in windowed mode. That issue happen since previous versions ( 1.9.1 and perhaps much others previous ). Another strange details is that happen very much if using cpu power profile power saver. Use cpu power profile high performance to run NES to avoid that issue not is the correct solution.

Have anothers users reporting exactly the same issue here posted.

Thanks for your reply.

Same issue, If I reboot the system works great for a few launches... once maybe the 4th or 5th launch no screen updates till I go to window mode....

Perhaps that issue is related with Nvidia GPUs. Here using an Radeon HD 3000 for several weeks and not any issues.
