Does it work on any other WiiU homebrew?
Which other Wii U homebrew makes use of a FAT32 drive?
But as I wrote it's working for all vWii sided homebrew except USB Loader GX which can't wake the drive by his own as well unless I use IOS58 as loader's IOS there.
I moved everything to a 250 GB drive which I have formatted the same way as the 5 TB drive and it's working just fine. It must have something to do with how RetroArch handles the 5 TB drive. By the way this is the drive I'm using: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/EEEdxtcyfl4/maxresdefault.jpg
Wii U only supports up to 3TB drives and it came with a system update, on launch was only 2TB.
Can concur, I'm using a 2tb hard drive, the kind that needs to be powered via a Y cable. Though I can use it with vwii (Slightly, I can't actually load any homebrew off of it, and homebrew can't seem to read off it very well) through USB Loader, which seems to read and play through it just fine, and the Wii U gives the format message at launch, Retroarch does not detect the USB. Perhaps it's just how these multi-TB drives are configured? I had a 1 tb externally powered drive that worked perfectly fine through vWii AND Wii U Retroarch. Note, though, that that drive was a Seagate... I'll look into what Western Digital does to its hard drives and see if there's anything I can configure.
@aliaspider Is this a libfat issue?
doubt it since the same libfat is used for vWii. libfat relies on ioctl system calls, my main guess that the OS limit of 3TB is in the device driver and not the filesystem driver.
I remember previous reports from users who said that their multi-TB drives worked fine in other homebrew apps, so that's why I questioned libfat.
Same trouble here with a 4TB WD USB 3.0
About the same here.
128gb pendrive works in vwii and wiiu. 4tb mbr fat32 wd hdd (with 4k sectors) works only in vwii.
I guess there is a hard 2Tb limit which only applies for wiiu mode.

Hello I see above that you can use both USB stick and wiiu formated HDD. What is your setup ? I can't making work, usb3 256Go, and self powered HDD Y cable. My wants is that's using wiiflow on USB stick, and injects on the HDD...
RetroArch is said to work with Fat32 usb devices if launched after a CFW on Wii U. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work with my 5 TB drive (which has one big 5 TB Fat32 partition, MBR, 32 k cluster size). The drive works for almost everything in virtual Wii mode (vWii) including
However it doesn't work for USB Loader GX coldbooted as well, I always have to go this way for the drive to work under USB Loader GX: Homebrew Channel -> WiiFlow -> USB Loader GX -> any game
It seems that it's rather an issue of waking a drive than that it's "too big". Since WiiFlow for (v)Wii seems to be able to wake the drive, the code from there might be helpful.
In RetroArch there's no directories at all showing up whenenver I enter usb:/ to open a content.
