I tested CHDs of the PAL and JP versions without issue. That being said, goal replays are quite big (for a VMU) at 24 blocks each. This translates to 112 writes when the goal replay is being saved, and the VMU file is saved on disk each time. This shouldn't be an issue unless your VMU files are on extremely slow storage, or if your storage is corrupted/unreadable.
