I'm not able to reproduce this crash. Can you provide more details about the media used (gdi/cdi/cue?, region?) Does the crash also happen when using the glcore driver? with the vulkan driver? At which point in the game does the problem occur?
"Render to Texture Upscaling" is normally disabled for this game so your setting should be ignored. However, it's preferable to reset all settings to default when troubleshooting a problem.
I can confirm the above issue, playing on the Switch. Another user reported the issue, I tested it for myself using their VMU file and have the same issue.
Here is a link to the person's post on GBATemp containing their VMU file. https://gbatemp.net/threads/official-flycast-for-retroarch-on-horizon-thread.569906/#post-9132379
I'm using 1.8.8, which is listed as the stable version of Retroarch, on Windows 10. I attached my retroarch.cfg file as a txt file if that helps. The only things I recall changing from default settings is the internal resolution and "Render to Texture Upscaling". Honestly I don't even know what that last one does, I just assumed it made the textures look better or something.
