What is:

Super Mario Bros. 2j (Unl) [U][!] - UNL-SMB2J

This core should support fds games?

Is this a hack that has an emulated disk system on a cart?

ghost commented 7 years ago

@meepingsnesroms sorry a small typo for Super Mario Bros. 2j (Unl) [U][!].. the mapper UNL-SMB2J is there but its does not initialize the game. still have to look whats goin on there... the game Volleyball (FDS Conversion) (Unl) [U][!] which uses the same board(UNL-SMB2J) loads fine so it probably is some sort of init missing, considering the volleyball game uses only 32K+8K PRG0/1 while SMB2J is 64K+16K. the board is different from mapper43 as they both have separate code

But what is smb2j is it an unlicensed cart, disksys in a cart or a Nintendo official smb2 port for the us?

ghost commented 7 years ago

there seems to be 2 FDS Conversions of SMB2J. this one is marked SMB2J Alt small, the other one is Alt Full Version and was moved to mapper43 ines format. https://github.com/libretro/libretro-fceumm/blob/master/src/boards/09-034a.c#L28

this version used to worked. i tracked down the last update of this mapper that has this working. im not sure if it was an accident that its not working after the last update(2012)
